The four-question filter

For any role or opportunity, score 1-5:

  1. Will I learn? (skills that compound)
  2. Will the people make me better? (manager, peers, network)
  3. Is the market growing? (sector momentum)
  4. Am I paid fairly for my stage?

Offer comparison

Don't compare just base salary. Compare: total comp, equity, remote flexibility, growth trajectory, manager quality, and the downside risk if it doesn't work out.

The 10-year test

Ask: 'If I'm doing this same job in 2036, will I be proud?' If no, it had better be a stepping stone with a clear next move.
