Stage 1 — Shortlist

Aim for 8–12 programmes across a mix of reach, match, and safety. Use the GetToWork Scholarships tab and filter by country, level, and funding.

Stage 2 — Personal statement

  • Open with a specific moment, not a platitude.
  • Spend 60% on the why — your motivation, evidence of commitment.
  • Spend 30% on the what — the programme, specific faculty / courses.
  • Spend 10% on the future — concrete plan to apply what you learn.

Stage 3 — Recommenders

Give them: (a) your CV, (b) your draft statement, (c) the programme link, (d) the exact deadline.

Stage 4 — The interview

Panels test: authenticity of motivation, clarity of goals, cultural fit with the cohort. Prepare 3 stories from your life that show change-making.

Stage 5 — Backup plans

Never rely on a single scholarship. Apply to at least 5 with staggered deadlines.
